Orig. published in 1915, this is one of the "white cover" reprints from the late 1960s, which retains the original illustrations (in pen-and-ink) by Neill throughout the 288 pages, with decorative endpapers by the same. An Ex-Lib copy, condition is reduced to Poor due to heavy wear & the usual library stamps, markings, & card pocket. Heavy rubbing to extremities, wear to all corners & both ends of spine. Pages are white & generally clean, with the occasional smudge or stain; heavy coffee-colored stain to fore edge toward rear of book. Binding is strong & straight. NO writing, underlining, coloring or highlighting besides the library marks. No DJ. Basically a Reading Copy to hold space in your collection! Description: CA: 1939. The Scarecrow of Oz was originally published in 1915 with colored plates. After 1935 the color plates were replaced with B&W illustrations. The paste-on color front cover, which this edition has, was discontinued after 1950. There is a gift incsctipsion on the front FEP that reads, "Lee-Christmas 1939." There is some minor foxing to the color illustration on the front cover and a small section 1/4" of the right lower corner of the illustration is missing. Otherwise the book is in very good condition with light bumping to the corners. The text block is tight and complete and there are no marks or mars in the text. Overall, a very nice copy.
