Description: True first British printing. No jacket. Brown boards with (faded) gold lettering to spine and gold lettering to front are very good with minor pushing/bumping to corners, a few marks to front, minor patchy fading (including to spine), the odd small bump/rub to edges and a little wear (pushing/rubbing/slight fraying to the cloth) to head/tail of spine. Pages are generally clean and the binding is tight. Top of pages dyed brown. Previous owner's name and date in pen inside front board. Pages are a bit tanned. Very occasional small mark/spot of foxing to pages. No other faults. All books described honestly and accurately. Paypal accepted.

Very good + / near fine and clean inside. There has been an inscription on the front endpaper, which is barely visible & has been rubbed out by a previous owner. 'The Scapegoat' seemed to promise a tale which might combine the tantalizing excitements of a Myth or Dream with the absorbing interest of a vigorous realistic story'. Intense, imaginative unease.
