Mild wear; signed in ink on the limitations page; boards rubbed with corner-bumping and edgewear; offset to the endpapers along with some surface tears where old bookplates have been removed; top joint starting and first signature loose; some small internal marks and tears. Good to very good. Postage quoted is for a standard format octavo book. Final charges may vary depending on size and weight. First edition with woodcuts by Clare Leighton; limited to fifteen hundred copies, of which five hundred copies were for sale in England and one thousand copies in the United States of America.

Very light foxing to the front endpapers, else very clean throughout and the binding tight and square. Limited to 1500 copies, of which 500 are for sale in England and 1000 for sale in the United States. This is he British edition, signed by illustrator Clare Leighton. Nice copy.

Small quarto; quarter-bound in cream vellum with patterned paper boards; x, [xi, xii]; [2], 3-485 pages; top edge gilt; one of 1500 copies, signed under the limitation statements by Clare Leighton; with 12 tipped in plates, and many in-text illustrations.~~This copy with an ALS from Clare Leighton to a Mr. Nyberg [?] on stationery from ‘Palmer House" in Chicago. The note thanks Mr. Nyberg for his letter and advice: "I think you are wise -- really I do" and expresses Miss Leighton's hope that she will see him "after [her] return to Baltimore". An addendum is of interest: "I hadn't noticed that I'd promised the next book to Macmillans -- what a slovenly creature I am". We assume that Mr. Nyberg (or whomever) was with a publishing concern. Very Good binding.

Top page edges gilt with brown endpapers. In very good conditions. 3 vols with chips to ends of spines; Greenwood Tree, Madding Crowd & Woodlanders, with rubbing to corners of boards. Some slight darkening to spines, Return of Native & Blue Eyes have slightly darker boards, and are in plain card slipcases (one case has chip to end). Return of Native also has a tiny hole nr bottom end of front hinge. Little Ironies with small bump/chip to bottom edge of front board. Jude the first 4 pages after title page are marked with offsetting from a bookmark. A couple of neat pencil inscriptions to endpapers, only one has penned inscription to endpaper (Greenwood Tree) inscribed ?Brinley Lewis.? Inside pages are all very clean, bright and tight in each volume, only Greenwood Tree has a couple of minor light foxing spots to blank prelims (inside all clean.) Else an excellent scarce set. 9 Vols: Each approx 500pp. Thin paper. Each with a map of Wessex at rear. ?Specifically produced for presentation purposes and are very uncommon.?
