Description: 26 Chapter headpieces by J. Allen St. John. (No frontispiece, no glossy internal plates; it appears there never were any.) States "Published March, 1915," with no later printings named. NO dust jacket. First Edition, first state with the "W. F. Hall" imprint in small print to the copyright page (Zeuschner 446). The second book in the Tarzan series. Green cloth with gilt lettering faded but still legible to front board; lettering reduced to a blind-stamlping to spine. The FFE is missing, the first page now being the half-title. A rather dull looking copy but without any stains or damage to the pages; both internal hinges have been strengthened with white library tape; overall fair-to-good. The first Tarzan book illustrated by J. Allen St. John -- 26 illustrations as headpieces for every chapter. 365 pp., reduced from $87.

Description: Smaller octavo. Green cloth covered boards and spine with gilt lettering on both the spine and the front board. Book has a fair amount of bumping at the head and tail of the spine and at the tips of the outside corners. Fair amount of rubbing in all the same places has left the cloth colorless and frayed at the extremities. Extreme tips of the inner boards peek out at the tips of a couple corners. Fair amount of rubbing around all the outside edges and some light facial rubbing on the rear board. Gilt lettering is faded and no longer shiny, but still readable. Light cream colored endpapers. Previous owner's note and gift inscription on the upper edge of the free front endpaper. Front hinge starting just after the copyright page. Rear hinge intact, and binding still feels pretty firm. Light cream colored pages are clean and crisp. 365 pages. Chapter heading illustrations by J. Allen St. John. No dust jacket.

A 12mo of 7 3/8 by 5 inches with the top and fore edge of the text block soiled and light spots of rubbing to the cloth at the head and heel of the spine. In a good machine clipped dust jacket (no price) with 3/4" deep chips across the upper edge of the spine area and heavy rubbing to the folds. This jacket appears about 1/4" taller than the height of the book. It could be a "married" jacket from another copy. 365 pages of text. Illustrated with chapter headings by J. Allen St. John. The dust jacket was illustrated by N. C. Wyeth. The first edition of this title was published by A. C. McClurg in March of 1915. (Bergen, p. 24)
