Condition: Near Fine

Description: Previous owner was George Cukor whose neat, vintage bookplate with his name adorns the front pastedown. It is a small black and white picture of a nice house. The blue boards are clean and fresh with gilt lettering and design on front board and spine. Tips still pretty sharp. Unmarked, tight and square. Price intact jacket has light to moderate wear but no tears or chips. Two or three very small spots (teadrop?) on jacket and 1/2" closed tear on rear panel. A great association copy. In mylar. Price: US$705.80 + shipping

Condition: Near Fine

Description: The first UK edition of this early novel by noted author, W. Somerset Maugham, in the original unclipped dust wrapper. The first UK edition, first impression of the work, with no further impressions stated. First published earlier the same year by Doubleday. In the original unclipped dust wrapper. Due to wartime standards, the work was produced with very thin paper, meaning good quality survivals are both rare and sought after.Generally considered Maugham's best work, The Razor's Edge tells the story of an American pilot traumatised by his experiences in World War One in his quest for meaningful experience.A smart copy of this early work by Maugham. In the original cloth binding in the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally in excellent condition. Slight bumping to the extremities and the head and tail of the spine. Dust wrapper is smart with sunning to the spine as is common with this work. Archival tape reinforcements to the reverse of the wrap. The odd handling mark and spot to the wrap. Internally firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean with marginal age toning due to paper used. Near Fine

Maugham, W. Somerset. The Razor's Edge. William Heinemann Ltd., London [1944], 1944.

Price: US$750.00 + shipping

Condition: Near Fine

Description: First Edition. "First Published 1944" on verso of title page, no other printings indicated. Dropped "a" on page 126 indicating also the first state. Clean tight and unmarked with light overall handling wear, surprisingly nice condition for this inexpensive wartime manufacture. The plastic-protected dust jacket is also Near Fine with only light edge rubbing, see photos. This is not the usual first printing dust jacket pictured in other listings, but a much less common version apparently printed on a leftover dust jacket from Maugham's "Ashenden". I gather this was sometimes done when the first run of the original jackets was exhausted; the back panel is also noticeably different than the first printing
