Price: US$950.00 + shipping
Description: Large octavos. 13 vols. Each of the volumes are uniform in size and more or less uniformly bound in blue cloth. Since the set was issued over a period of 12 years by 3 different publishers, the bindings present some slight variations, as described below. Overall, the set is illustrated with several photographs and facsimiles of letters and documents. It is internally bright and clean and complete. Random House issued the first 5 volumes in 2 similar but slightly different bindings. Ours is a mixed set with Volumes 1,2,4,5 in blue cloth with gilt lettered spines and Roosevelt's blind embossed signature on the front cover. Vols. 3 has Roosevelt's signature in gilt and its spine lettering on a black label. Volumes 6, 7, 8, and 9 are similar to Vol. 3, but were published by Macmillan and are housed in the publisher's cardboard slipcase. Volumes 10, 11, 12 and 13, are also similar to Vol. 3, but without Roosevelt's signature on the front cover. They were published by Harper & Brothers (and their spine lettering is a bit rubbed). v. 1. The genesis of the New Deal, 1928-1932 -- v. 2. The year of crisis, 1933 -- v. 3. The advance of recovery and reform, 1934 -- v. 4. The Court disapproves, 1935 -- v. 5. The people approve, 1936 -- [v. 6]. The Constitution prevails, 1937 -- [v. 7]. The continuing struggle for liberalism, 1938 -- [v. 8]. War--and neutrality, 1939 -- [v. 9]. War--and aid to democracies, 1940 -- [v. 10]. The call to battle stations, 1941 -- [v. 11]. Humanity on the defensive, 1942 -- [v. 12]. The tide turns, 1943 -- [v. 13]. Victory and the threshold of peace, 1944-45.
