Loose boards. Wear to leather covers and spines. Gilt decor and embossed patterns on covers and gilt lettering on spines. Bumped corners and edgewear, consistent with age. Marbled pastedowns and first blank pages. Light browning of pages, pages in great condition in all 4 volumes with very minimal staining. Vol. 1.- Engraved frontispiece of Dryden. Back board detached but present. Life of Dryden (i- cxxiv), (1-435) Vol. 2.- Detached front board but present. Pages (1- 596). Includes black silk page maker. Vol. 3.- Loss at crown of spine. Description: Likely contemporary full mid brown leather with marbled endpapers. All edges marbled. Covers have elaborate gold decorated frames. Spines with raised bands are decorated in gold. Burgundy & black title labels are lettered in gold. First blank in volume one is inscribed "F. S. Stone ex dono George Tomluce" (or similar). Portrait frontispiece to vol 1. Frontispiece and title page (vol 1) are a bit spotted. Very slight spotting mostly confined to first and last few leaves of other volumes. Otherwise this set is in NEAR FINE condition.

Description: Four Volumes. 8vo., Vol. 1: 435 pp., Vol. 2: 396 pp., Vol. 3: 551 pp., Vol. 4: 558 pp., Fair, Blue Boards, minor stains on covers, shelf wear, edge wear, some foxing in text block, leather along spine has worn away, though most of the binding is intact. Given that the Text is in such good shape, one is tempted to call the overall condition Good; the fact that the boards are hanging by a thread or two renders an assessment of Fair.
