Note that the fep is the only page still attached to the boards, the rest of the pages are now individually extractable. Small binders label (Harrisons, Bookseller to the Queen) at top of front pastedown. Full leather binding for Buffalo Female Academy with date: June 25th 1863, the name: Elizabeth Folley and the institution name: 2nd Academic Department Buffalo Female Academy, engraved with tooling on front panel, five raised bands. All edges gilt with original marbled endpapers. Edjes are rubbed and there is scattered foxing throughout. Printed in color from woodblock plates by Birket Foster and head and tail ornamentations by Noel Humphries.

Printed in colours from wood blocks. Birket Foster was a British illustrator, water colourist, and engraver, known for his scenes of rural life. This paired nicely with Humphrey's work as a naturalist and they enjoyed a successful working relationship. In a handsome full red calf binding, with gilt detail. A smart collection of the poetry of Oliver Goldsmith, featuring some of his best known works, including The Deserted Village and The Traveller. In a full calf binding with gilt detail. Oliver Goldsmith spent the majority of his life in debt and produced a large literary output as a hack writer for many publishers of London. He was referred to by Horace Walpole as 'an inspired idiot'. Includes one of his foremost works, the pastoral poem 'The Deserted Village'. Complete with 40 gilt bordered, colour woodblock illustrations by Birket Foster and H. N. Humphreys, the former of whom was incredibly popular in Victorian Britain, famed for his idyllic images of rural England. In a full morocco binding with attractive gilt detailing to the spine. Externally, generally smart with some shelfwear and just a little rubbing to the boards and spine. Hinges are slightly strained. Internally, firmly bound with bright and clean pages that have just the occasional handling mark. Very Good
