Description: A thirteen volume uniform set of the pocket edition comprising the complete plays of George Bernard Shaw. the first twelve volumes are dated 1929 and the volume containing the last play ' the Apple Cart ' which was first performed in 1929 is dated 1932. Volumes are bound in blue leather with gilt to spine and top of text block, all volumes have marker ribbons one or two of which have frayed slightly on the ends. there is slight wear at the top of the spines of one or two volumes and very slight wear to covers of one of two but overall they comprise a really nice looking set of these literary classics. Description: Inscribed association copy of this collection from the Nobel winning playwright, presented warmly to Alfred G. Arvold, who was instrumental in the US for the development and spread of the "little theater" movement. Arvold was a noted regional theater figure and founded the Little Country Theater in Fargo, ND. This copy is inscribed to him by Shaw at the Malvern Theater, whose yearly festivals were noted for the stagings of Shaw's plays. An uncommonly detailed and lengthy inscription. 7'' x 4.75''. Original beige cloth, spine lettered in gilt. Publisher's ads at rear. 320, [4] pages. Inscribed by Shaw to the half-title: "Inscribed to / Alfred G. Arvold / in grateful acknowledgement of his / services to dramatic art in virgin fields / in the United States of America. / G. Bernard Shaw / Malvern / 29th Aug. 1930." Mild rubbing, soil to cloth.
