This text of the four gospels is based on reformer William Tyndale's 1526 English translation of the Bible. Designed by Victor Hammer, the presswork executed by Jacob Hammer at their Anvil Press. "This was certainly one of the most ambitious projects of the press" (Patkus, The Privately Printed Bible, p. 132). One of 300 sets printed on Arnold Unbleached paper. With the elegant book label of Norman J. Sondheim (designed by Leo Wyatt) in each volume. A clean, fine set (though in the S. Jhon volume, issued in 1954, there is some light foxing on the covers and light binding adhesive shadows on the endpapers. All textblocks are clean and bright. The previous owner protected each volume in a plain paper wrapper, so the covers are free of soiling. An Introduction to Victor and Carolyn Hammer, Anvil Press 15.
