Stated First Edition; in the rare first printing; with a full numberline; 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1. The DJ is Fine; only flaw keeping this from As-New status is mild toning to spine. The book is currently in lesser shape. This copy has been set aside for years waiting for me to get around to sending it for some restorative love; but have decided to list it until I get around to it. The panels are clean aside from still-sticky tape ghosts that can be neutralized. Rear endpapers are bright and clean; only faint taper-ghost outline; and navy blue endpapers hide it well. The front pastedown is clean; the FFEP is a 1 inch stub from top to bottom. Slightest faint bleed from navy endpapers; not bad. Half-title page has a small address label size outline scratch. Slight lean; first few pages have faint wave at edge. No stamps, writing or anything else other than noted. So yes it needs some love to breathe new life into it; but considering how rare true first printings in first state DJs are; it is worth the investment. Rare first state DJ is fine; with a flawed first printing book; with potential and legs.

All three books are the First USA printings published by Sun and Moon Press, Los Angeles in 1985 and 1986. All have the full number line and state 'First Edition'. The BOOKS are all in near Fine condition. Light pushing at the spine ends to Vol.1. All are free from inscriptions. The WRAPPERS are complete and are in near Fine condition The wrapper of 'City of Glass' is in the second state; the spine is slightly toned and there is a barely visible outline where the small sticker bearing the publisher's imprint was plainly tipped to the spine. This sticker is now loosely inserted. There is no difference between the first and second state wrappers apart from when the publishers realised they had omitted the publishers imprint on the printed wrapper, they produced some small paper imprints to be tipped on to the spine of the wrapper. Most of these have inevitably fallen off over the passage of time but this one is loosely inserted. With this set is also included the third state wrapper where the publisher's imprint has been incorporated into the printed wrapper and additional logo designs have been added to the flaps. The wrappers are protected in removable Brodart archival covers. All three volumes have been signed (without dedication) by the author to the title page. Paul Auster's classic meta-fictional detective story with his signature theme of the search for identity and his brand of American existentialism. A sharp set of the author's classic work.
