Description: 1963. First Published. 248 pages. No dust jacket. This is an ex-Library book. Blue cloth with gilt lettering. Ex-library copy, with expected inserts and inscriptions. Light tanning to pages. More prominent foxing, tanning and tape staining to text block edges, pastedowns and free endpapers. Light cracking to gutters but binding remains firm. Boards have minor corner bumping and edgewear with mild tape staining, tanning and scuffing overall. Spine has heavier tanning with soft crushing to ends. Lettering remains bright and clear. Book has a slight forward lean.

Description: As with the first UK edition of The Natural, the UK proof contains "Some notes on the game of baseball" by Malamud and a 10-page glossary of baseball terms not found in the American edition. The proof also includes Malamud's previously unpublished Prefatory reference to the aforementioned glossary. Good plus in plain butcher paper wrappers as issued, with toning at the edges, a little production creasing to the spine, a roughly half-inch long raised crease at the top of the front cover, and a one inch plus fold mark on the front cover close to the bottom corner. Rare. First Edition. UNCORRECTED PROOF, preceding the First Edition.
