Description: The cover has orange letters and a vignette on blue cloth. 1 1/4 in. thick. 216 pages; 4 b/w plates; 4 pages of ads. The endpapers have a redtone illustration. The color has off-set a little on the front one and slightly so on the back one. The top end of the text block is red. This title is last in the list in the front and is below the copyright line. The list in the ad has the first ten Nancy Drew titles. The front FEP has a gift inscription in pencil, dated, Dec. 25, 1936. About half of the spine strip's cloth has darkened. The spine strip has a linear 5/8 in. faded spot; the front board has a linear 1 in. faded spot. The boards' front corners an another spot are slightly threadbare, from 1/16 in. to 1/8 in. A light water stain is along the front edge of each plate and the blank side of the front FEP. Two page margins each have a 1 in. x 1/2 in. light stain. Pages are lightly tanned. Corners are very lightly compressed. Top of spine has tiny amount of fading. Top and bottom board edges have string tie marks. Book stands nice and square. Couple of small blemishes on front fore edge. Dust Jacket condition: Good. Not price clipped at 50c. A little fading to color on spine. Paper repairs to closed tears and minor chipping at the head and foot of the back strip. First title to be written by Mildred A. Wirt Benson under the pseudonym of Carolyn Keene taking over from Leslie McFarlane is known best for authoring the early Hardy Boys books under the pseudonym of Franklin W. Dixon.
