Description: Olive green cloth, decorated in dark green, lettered in green. Decently preserved copy, with cloth a bit darkened by age and an area of soiling along upper front joint, purely cosmetic. Light shelf wear. Spine panel toned to brownish. Lacks front flyleaf, otherwise intact internally, with firm binding. Rear hinge paper partly split, hinge itself absolutely firm and intact. Text block edges somewhat dulled by age. viii,[2],3-498 pp. Lesser-known supernatural fiction by the author of "Dracula." This first U.S. edtion preceded the first British edition (by Heinemann). A solid copy with relatively minor defects. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall

Description: Hardback first edition lacking dustjacket. Green cloth has faded a bit on the spine but lettering is still clear and readable. Light wear and soiling to covers but lettering and designs still clear and readable. Previous owner's name on front endpaper and small letter N stamped there. Hinges had cracked but have been repaired, leaving them solid but showing wear. Still a solid copy of a scarce edition.

Description: 1st ed (precedes U.K. ed); A mystery novel involving a castle, secret passages & a cypher created by Francis Bacon; A VG , tight copy in decor. green cloth covers with title & author in gilt, decorated in black with black border containing cypher design related to story with gold borders & gold spine decorated with gilt title and black design; The green patina on the covers is attractive contrasted with the gold surrounding it but probably due to some chemical reaction although it does not appear faded in any other way. A nice clean, unmarked copy.
