Price: US$250.00 + shipping

Description: 352pp. Octavo [23.5 cm] 1/2 red cloth over black boards. Map endsheets and pastedowns. Very good/Very good. Jacket is price clipped. This work is regarded Abbey's most famous and influential novel, that follows the deeds and adventures of Doc, Hayduke, Bonnie, and Seldom Seen, as they protest the industrialization and destruction of the southwest through means of sabotage and "monkeywrenching." Because of this work, the term 'monkeywrench' has come to mean, besides sabotage and damage to machines, any sabotage, activism, lawmaking, or lawbreaking to preserve wilderness, wild spaces and ecosystems. Edward Abbey (1927-1989) was a celebrated author, essayist, conservationist, noted pain-in-the-ass, and in many ways the father (or at the very least, uncle) of the modern environmental movements. Edward Abbey. The Monkey Wrench Gang. J. B. Lippincott, 1975.

Price: US$350.00 + shipping

Condition: Very Good

Description: J. B. Lippincott, Philadelphia and New York, 1975. Stated first edition. While the book is the American first edition, this book has a Canadian review copy slip compliments of McClelland and Stewart Limited. Edward Paul Abbey (1927 1989) was an American author and essayist noted for his advocacy of environmental issues, criticism of public land policies, and anarchist political views. Easily Abbey's most famous work of fiction, the novel concerns the use of sabotage to protest environmentally damaging activities in the Southwestern United States, and was so influential that the term "monkey wrench" has come to mean, besides sabotage and damage to machines, any sabotage, activism, law-making, or law-breaking to preserve wilderness, wild spaces and ecosystems This book, 352 pages, is in very good condition. While very sound and square the book has a gentle, used book feel to it and has been read by at least me. The price clipped dust jacket is in similar condition with a small tear and a small triangular piece, 14mm X 8mm, missing on the back of the jacket, now in a protective mylar wrap.

Condition: Good

Description: 352p octavo, Binding trifle cocked and with a tiny hole at the top of the boards, - and we think Abbey would find this hilarious-the book has been nibbled at the base of the spine, causing some loss to the cloth and a bit of the boards and the textblock in a poor dust jacket with a large chip on the front cover and a bit more nibbling at the upper flap fold. A unique copy as it is inscribed by Abbey "For my old friend Bill Eastlake, master story -teller, from whom I have learned (and borrowed) so very much ---- from Ed Abbey Moab, Utah 1975". Two lines underlined on page 31 which surely would have been Eastlake we assume. A fair to good copy of a great association.
