Ex library with discreet stamps. Damp stain to the covers top edge but barely discernable to the pages.

This pageant was written especially for the coronation of King Edward VII and was finished in the week of the ceremony. Printed at the Guild of Handicraft Press at Essex House. Illustrated throughout by Edith Harwood. Limited edition, number 55 of 300. Charles Robert Ashbee was an English architect and designer. He was a prime mover of the Arts and Crafts movement. In a full cloth binding with pictorial boards. Externally, generally smart. Tidemarks to the bottom of the front and rear boards, resulting in a small amount of cockling to the tail of several pages but no permanent tidemarks. Bumping to the extremities. Description: Oblong folio. 49pp. From an edition of 300 copies, this is one of twenty printed on vellum. Illustrated with ten lithographs by Edith Harwood, eight of which are double-page and show the coronation processions of the eight Edwards. As a deluxe copy, the illustrations are hand-painted by Harwood in watercolor and often graced with gold leaf, which particularly emphasizes the grandeur of the proceedings and highlights the crowns and garments, as if the pages themselves were bejeweled. The result is a sumptuous and charming panorama of English history. Text is printed in red and black. Bound in buckram-covered boards. Some splitting between text block and rear paste-down, mild discoloration to upper board, else a near fine copy, with all the protective tissues present.
