Description: Sturdy, attractive, tightly bound, internally clean hardcover copy, with unbruised tips, toned but clean paste-downs; not ex-library, with neither highlighting nor underlining. Cracking to first endpaper to gutter from top to middle, some mild soiling to and toning of endpapers. Illustrated with full-color wood-cuts by Paul Honore, bound in a kind of burlap cloth covering. 28 pp. Introductory Note by Richard Ellis, and who warmly inscribes the volume at the first free endpaper, "For Miriam, with all happy wishes from the writer and printer, Richard E. Christmas 1941." Signed by the illustrator again at the page of limitation, noting that this edition was printed in a run of 1250 copies, that it was composed on the monotype in a new revised cutting of 8A mode for this edition. The letter "is an adaptation of a type face used in American during the period of Bret Harte's literary career."
