Condition: Fair

Description: The 11th book in the original Oz series written by Baum & illustrated by John Neill. Orig. published in 1917, this is a slightly later printing of that First Edition, which retains the original cover art, frontispiece, & internal illustrations, but not in their original color renderings; now in pen-and-ink. With tan cloth over boards, black lettering & design to spine, publisher's name in fancy, not plain, script, plain endpapers, & a full-color front paper pastedown, in 313 pages. Though generally clean & bright, condition is downgraded to only Fair because former owner colored most of the illustrations with crayon; crayon scribbling in front matter & to rear endpapers as well. But the front pastedown is colorful & bright, with some wrinkling & small chips/holes. Binding is straight & strong, front hinge cracked, rear hinge starting. both hinges secure. Modest edgewear all around, heavy along bottom edges of rear board, all the way down to underlying boards. Looks lovely on shelf & the story is magical, despite these cosmetic flaws. NO DJ. Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same Day Shipping on all orders received by 2 pm Weekdays (Pacific); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next business day.
