The transcription from the Admiralty records alone took three months, and the setting presented many difficulties. All the events of the day were recorded on the page devoted to that day in the space allotted to the hour, or even half hour, at which they were recorded. When necessary, hand-writing can be compressed, but not so type.' Pertelote pp. 12-13.
