Price: US$375.00 + shipping

Description: xx, 503, [1] pages. Hardcover: H 16.25cm x L 10.25cm. Fine binding, probably later 19th century, likely the work of a London shop but without a binder's mark. Full light brown polished calf leather; gilt borders to boards with gilt inner dentelles; spine has five raised bands with four gilt tooled compartments; spine's dark purple title label with gilt lettered "Lives of John Donne Etc." but author's compartment missing its label with impression of "Walton" still faintly discernable; date "1825" stamped in gilt at spine heel which was a practice of the Zaehnsdorf bindery but certainly not exclusive to that renowned firm. Some scuffing at joints, spine ends, and at board edges particularly at corners. All edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. Binding is firm. B/w plates. Each biographical section with its own title leaf. A few occurrences of light foxing and toning to interior pages; pencil notation "7-" perhaps by some past bookseller at bottom margin of page ii; no other such markings readily apparent upon a quick perusal. Still a handsome book. (Also available in a matching leather binding but sold separately is THE COMPLETE ANGLER OF IZAAK WALTON. London: John Major, 1823.)
