Description: 1927. No Edition Remarks. 326 pages. No dust jacket. This is an ex-Library book. Blue cloth. Book has been rebound by library, with expected inserts, stamps and inscriptions. Slight cracking to gutters causing binding to be loose, however pages remain attached. Pages have light tanning and foxing throughout. Water staining to some pages edges, text remains unaffected. Boards have moderate shelf-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Light tanning to spine and edges with crushing to spine ends. Splits to spine ends causing cloth to be frayed. Plastic to spine.

Description: FIRST EDITION, sparing pencil marking to margins corresponding to brief notes at head of rear free endpaper, and the odd correction to the text, pp. 326, [2, ads], 8vo, original bluish grey cloth, bevelled edges, backstrip lettered in gilt and faded with some wear at ends and a dink towards foot, a few marks overall and one corner knocked, t.e.g., a small amount of cracking at head of front hinge, fair. Signed by the author at the head of the title-page, and uncommon thus. Lewis's discursion, typically tangential, on Shakespeare's plotting and characterisation. This is the variant, Morrow & Lafourcade's (2), printed on unwatermarked laid paper, with 'Richards' stamped in gilt at the backstrip tail. (Pound & Grover A6a: Morrow & Lafourcade A7a(2))

Blue cloth covered boards with bevelled edges and gilt titling to the front cover and spine, top page edge gilt, no Dust Jacket. Condition good, corners and spine ends rubbed, spine a bit sunned, there is foxing to the edge of the text block and the first and last 20 or so pages, then just at the page edges for the rest of the pages. Variant 2 with Richards stamped in gilt at the base of the spine.
