Illustrations are bright and clear, with some light tanning and foxing to edges. Previous owner's inscription to front free end paper. Dog ear to page 143. Boards have light shelf-wear with corner bumping. Light tanning to spine and edges with crushing to spine ends. Faint marking overall. Cloth is mildly stained with light dusty marks. Some sunning to the inner edge of the front board. A few damp spots to spine.

A little very light foxing, mainly to endpapers and text-block edge, otherwise contents clean with no annotation or inscriptions. A very good copy. The first reprint of Lewis' well-loved classic.

Description: Second printing of the true first edition, published in 1954. The book was first published by Geoffrey Bles in 1950. With the beautiful colour frontispiece, black and white Narnia map-illustrated endpapers, and line illustrations throughout by Pauline Baynes. ***A near fine copy in pale blue cloth-covered boards with silver titles to the spine. Edges of boards just slightly rubbed and faded. Spine slightly toned as usual with a slight indentation at the centre, The boards are clean with hardly any of the usual fading. The boards are straight with just a hint of a reading lean. Head and tail of spine slightly creased. Corners sharp with top corners just slightly curved. Edges of page block clean. Internally the book is also near fine, with no inscriptions or annotations. Some very light creasing to the bottom tips of a few pages. Light fold crease to the bottom corner of p35/6 [please see scans]. There are no creases or tears and no obvious marks internally - the pages are nice and clean. Printed on quality cream paper. Without the dustwrapper. ***173 pages. 206 mm x 146 mm. ***A very nice example of the second printing of the first edition of this hugely popular children's classic, the first published book in the Chronicles of Narnia series. Early printings of "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" from the 1950s are very hard to come by now, especially in such nice clean condition. Most copies were read countless times, and are damaged and usually have child-ownership inscriptions and often coloured-in illustrations.
