Jessamyn West. The Life I Really Lived. Franklin Library, 1979.

Price: US$75.00 + shipping

Condition: Fine

Description: This offering is a Deluxe, Limited Edition Franklin Library publication of The Life I Really Lived written by Jessamyn West and illustrated by Will Harmuth. It's deluxe in that it has the "built in" bookmark, gold-gilded page edges, satin-like end pages, and leather-bound boards with a ribbed spine and gold-gilded lettering decorating both the front and back boards and forming the print on the spine. It IS a book in Franklin Mint's The First Edition Society which means that it has also been signed (perhaps laser-printed) and includes a laid-in eight page "Notes from the Editors" pamphlet describing the work. The book was published by The Franklin Library in 1979 and is a stated "limited first edition published by special arrangement with" Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, Inc. Usually the books in this series by Franklin Library were published a bit before the trade editions so, in reality, the books in The First Edition Society are the true firsts. This copy is in fine condition and has not been read. To my knowledge, the only time it's been opened has been when I opened it to glean the information that I've included in this blurb. What an absolutely beautiful gift . . . for yourself or a loved one! Thank you for looking!

West, Jessamyn. The Life I Really Lived. First Edition, Limited Edition, with Notes From the Editor. 1979, Leatherbound. The Franklin Library, Franklin Center, PA, 1979.

Price: US$200.00 + shipping

Condition: As New

Description: As New. Franklin Center, PA: The Franklin Library, 1979. First Edition and Limited Edition. With included, separate "Notes from the Editors", now scarce. Octavo, 430 pp.; illustrations executed with distinctive style by Will Harmuth for this true first edition. As New; immaculate and pristine. See scans. Franklin's lavish leather binding of the First Edition of West's 1979 quasi-autobiographical (but definitely fictional) novel about a quaker girl growing through the challenges, adventures and dilemmas of her time. Full rich red top grain leather, gilt decorated and imprinted, spine panels rib divided, All Edges Gilt, gold moire endpapers, and a matching satin page-marker ribbon. The gilt is 22 karat; the paper is 60-pound Franklin Library '1854' White book sheet, typeface is 10-point Baskerville. The Franklin Library, doing what they did best. As New, and never read; has been protectively archived since arrival. Page-marker ribbon has in fact never been moved. Please review scans. With "A Special Message to the members of The First Edition Society" by Snow prefacing the novel (with laser printed signature); the scarce, separate "Notes from the Editors". That pamphlet does show faint toning at top front, and trace soil at bottom back cover. The book itself is of course fully pristine in every way. Please see all scans. Show this one off on the cocktail table; get a market copy to read. l-frnkln5
