Description: First Edition. 318pp., dark brown fine diagonal ribbed cloth, stamped in black, gilt and blind, t.e.g. Very nice copy; small press cutting on Buchanan's 1894 bankruptcy at corner of paste-down end-paper. His first prose work, the principal source for the life of the ill-fated Gray and important too as one of the earliest British assessments of Walt Whitman. Not in Colbeck. One of at least two later bindings, with all edges trimmed.

Front paste-down endpaper has small address type label torn off at top with two ownership bookplates. 366 pages with 24 pages of ads show wear with slight spotting and some fingerprinting. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall

Description: Hardcover with no DJ. Blue cloth boards with gold lettering on spine. Title page dated 1868. No date on copyright page. 366 pages. Fading along edges of boards. Spine also faded. Gold lettering on spine is shiny and legible. Shelf cocked. Pages are very lightly toned but otherwise clean and tidy. Illustration of Audubon on title page. Binding strong and tight. Description: Sampson Low, Son & Marston, 1868. Quarter leather on paper-covered boards, red spine label with gilt title. The interior is lightly age-darkened, but there is no foxing. Both hinges are cracked, but the binding is holding tightly. The top corner of the front board is heavily rubbed and chipped. Not an unattractive copy.

Description: With an albumen print photograph frontispiece of a painted portrait of Audubon wearing a fur collared cape. 8vo, frontispiece portrait, vii, 366pp, ads (24), uncut. Original green gilt decorated cloth, with highly decorative gilt title at spine. Slim damp mark along the back cover hinge, two chips with slight loss in the adverts at the rear, a small newspaper clipping laid down inside rear cover. Overall a very nice copy of our America's greatest bird portrait artist.
