Three volumes in the publisher's original plum cloth boards gilt stamped with a portrait of Johnson. The spine is also gilt-stamped and is in all three volumes very very slightly faded from the original, but only marginally and the gilt is in as new order. Internally the pages are clean with no inscriptions or library marks and the text is extremely clean, tight and unmarked other than the slightest of age toning. Vol 1 xxxii introduction, preface and list of plates, pp 433; Vol 2 pp 478; Vol 3 pp 577 including index, Appendix and corrections.
