Limited edition #400/1500 "The Life of Samuel Johnson, LL.D. comprehending an account of his studies, and numerous works, in chronological order; a series of his epistolary correspondence and conversations with many eminent persons; and various original pieces of his composition, never before published. the whole exhibiting a view of literature and literary men in Great-Britain, for near half a century during which he flourished." The famous biography by Boswell on the English poet, essayist, critic, journalist, lexicographer and conversationalist who is regarded as one of the most outstanding figures of 18th-century life and letters. Slipcase split along the edges of the bottom boards. with some additional rubbing and chipping to extremities. Bindings with sunning to spines, some corners bumped, shelf wear to covers. Ex-libris labels on interior front cover of all 3 volumes. Foxing to front and end papers, and paper edges. Slipcase in fair, bindings in very good-, interior in very good condition overall.

Spines uniformly faded to mid-brown; labels fine, still bright except Vol I, which shows mild rubbing to gilt (leather is still fine). Bindings all solid and tight, hinges as new, interior condition fine or better. Pages unmarked. Slipcase is present, but is rubbed, faded, and some joints are cracked. It has been repaired with non-yellowing book tape [3M], and so is very serviceable, but no longer particularly handsome. Still, overall a VG++ set in a Good slipcase.
