Description: Two volumes complete - Volume One - [5], ii-lxiv, [1], 2-327pp, [1] and Volume Two - [5], 2-324pp. Contemporary half morocco, smooth back, with title and running title inside an attractive frame to spine, marbled sides, edges, and marbled endpapers. Rubbed to extremities. Internally an occasional hint of foxing, offsetting from frontispiece on to title, some very light off setting from other illustrations, but generally quite bright and clean. Small bookseller's label to reverse of marbled front endpaper. Armorial bookplate of Sir William Eden to front pastedowns. With an engraved portrait frontispiece of Defoe engraved by Freeman, and sixteen illustrations by J.G. Strutt, "whose etchings of trees, published as 'Sylva Britannica' and 'Deliciae Sylvarum', had recently bought him a great reputation" (Sadleir II, page 109). Scattered foxing, light wear to boards and spine ends. 6 3/4 x 4 1/2. Very good or better.
