Unique edition, extra illustrated with relevant engravings from various sources, tissue-uarded frontispiece in each volume, 200 illustrations in all (includes 18 mostly hand-coloured plates, and 2 folding facsimiles), all inserted at appropriate spots. Full russet coloured smooth calf, gilt stamped illustration of Johnson in the upper corners of both front and rear covers with gilt facsimile signature in the bottom corners, triple ruled, 5 raised bands, ornate gilt to spine panels, leather spine labels, top edge gilt, others deckled, gilt dentelles, marbled endpapers. Bound by Sangorski and Sutcliffe, London. Volume 1 has a bit of staining to the leather of the rear panel, otherwise all volumes are in near fine condition, all individually housed in very good linen clamshell boxes with gilt-stamped leather spines.
