Description: Chicago: M. A. Donohue & Co. to the title page with Copyright 1902, the Bowen Merrill Company printed below. A later edition with Headings listed as Youth, Manhood and Old Age. Very gently read. Neat chronological family gift inscriptions to the ffep as it passed down in the family, otherwise the interior is remarkably clean with the occasional finger smudge or small stain. Dozen or so short tears and couple of longer ones to page extremities throughout, cello tape repair to pp.133/34. Rear board is moderately hinged but very firmly attached. Ten beautiful full colour illustrations with numerous fantastic black and white illustrations to chapter heads and margins throughout. This could be a second or third printing featuring the red cloth boards. They are moderately bumped and rubbed to extremities with some light soiling and fading to show. The full textured Santa illustration to the front board is in very nice condition with some colour loss.

Octavo, bound in full morocco by the Harcourt Bindery wit Âgilt titles and tooling to the spine in six compartments within raised gilt bands, gilt ruling to the front and rear panels, gilt inner dentelles stamp-signed by the Harcourt Bindery, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt. Six full color plates and illustrations throughout by Mary Cowles Clark. In near fine condition. L. Frank Baum was the first author to write a book entirely about Santa Claus, adding his own mythology to the classic character's origins and adventures.

Known for his Land of Oz, Baum in this story tells the life of Santa and just so happens Santa hails from the same enchanted Forest from which the Land of Oz obtained all its magic from! A very bright copy with just a hint of fading to spine cloth, corners and ends of spine lightly rubbed, white area to roof line illustration on cover with some very mild rubbing, else an excellent copy.
