Description: A limited edition of 325 numbered copies (of which 300 were for sale), printed by H.P.R.Finberg at the Alcuin Press (this being #76). 4to. 192pp. Burgundy buckram with bevelled edges, lettered in gold at the spine and with a gilt-stamped decoration to the upper board. All edges gilt. The title page printed in black and red with a two-colour decoration, and with decorated initials throughout. The buckram very slightly faded at the backstrip, with a tiny touch of wear to several corner tips, and little light scoring. A trace of toning to the front free endpaper. Former owner name neatly inked to the head of the front endpaper, and a tiny dealer plate to the base of the rear pastedown. A very good copy of Cavendish's celebrated biography of Cardinal Wolsey, the "most important single contemporary source for Wolsey's life" - Oxford Dictionary of National Biography.

Bound in deep red buckram, lettered in gilt on the spine. Beveled edges. The book remains extremely clean, bright and pleasing. The dust jacket shows some edge-wear and some foxing to the rear panel but overall remains very nice indeed. Hilary Mantel cites this book as one of her major sources for her award winning novel, Wolf Hall. Near Fine / Very Good.

Full crimson morocco with gilt spune lettering, front with the Cardinals device in gilt, all edges gilt, Rear tios a but bumped, bit of rubbing to top spine band else a very clean and lovely copy of this special edition.The Alcuin Press was founded in 1928 by Herbert Patrick Reginald Finberg (1900-1974), a former employee at the Shakespeare Head Press. The press was housed in a malt house behind Elm Tree House, High Street, Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire. Using modern machinery, Finberg produced fine books in small editions using hand-set types on hand-made paper.
