KAUFFMAN, Ruth and Reginald Wright Kauffman. The Latter Day Saints: A Study of the Mormons in the Light of Economic Conditions. Williams & Norgate, London, 1912.

Price: US$1000.00 + shipping

Description: First edition. A worn copy: right side of the front board lightened from dampening, chips and tears on the spine. Inscribed by both authors to Reginald Wright Kauffman's uncle Samuel Wright, a book reviewer and scholar: "To my very dearest uncle, and our dearest friend. Ruth Wright Kauffman" (and) "Sept. 1912. Moi aussi! Reginald Wright Kauffman." Upon Samuel Wright's death, the Kauffman's inherited his library, thus his books became their own copies. Kauffman was born and lived in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, although he also maintained homes in Switzerland and Bath, Maine. After graduating from Harvard in 1900, he wrote dozens of stories, mysteries, children's books, and non-fiction titles. He was the editor of the Bangor, Maine *Daily News* from 1941-1947. His novel *The House of Bondage* was widely praised, specifically by Emma Goldman, as the first serious attempt to explore the problem of women and prostitution. Very scarce.
