Riefenstahl, Leni. The Last of the Nuba. Harper & Row, Publishers, New York, 1973.

Price: US$125.00 + shipping

Condition: Very Good

Description: 208 pp. Tan cloth with gold lettering on spine. Photo-illustrated dust jacket in protective mylar sleeve. Attached to the front free endpaper are: (1) a photo-card of Riefenstahl at a young age wearing a pilot's hat, SIGNED by her; (2) a second photo-card portrait of Riefenstahl several decades later, SIGNED and INSCRIBED by her; and (3) a typewritten letter from Riefenstahl's secretary sent on behalf of Riefenstahl to thank Mr. Gerneaux of Lousville, KY for sending her a book of Heinrich Heine poems. Laid in are three envelopes mailed from Germany that presumably held the other items. Mr. Gerneaux's name and date of 1974 on ffeps and the half title page. Blind-stamped library seal of H. Robert Gande on first page of introductory text. Book is clean, square and tight throughout with toning to the page edges and slight fading to extremities of boards. Dust jacket is near fine but for slight soiling on top edge and head of spine and tiny tape-closed tears at bottom of spine. Photographs were shot over a period of ten years when Riefenstahl lived on and off with the Mesakin Nuba, often for several months at a time. This collection "presents her remarkable record of the everyday rhythms of [Nuba] life; of eating, sleeping, building, gathering food and taking their leisure; of the great cycles of birth, marriage and death; and of the remarkable central factor of their culture and religion: the wrestling contest." Size: Quarto
