Graham Greene. The Labyrinthine Ways. The Viking Press, 1940.

Price: US$89.79 + shipping

Condition: Very Good

Description: First American Edition, second state, with cancels of pages 165 and 256, originally published in the UK as 'The Power and the Glory'. (The title is taken from the poem 'The Hound of Heaven' by the Catholic poet Francis Thompson). There are a number of other differences between the UK edition and the US one: 'The Power and the Glory' is dedicated to the priest who helped Greene with the book, whereas this is dedicated to his wife Vivien Greene - the last of six books dedicated to her. 'The Power and the Glory' also has an author's note and titles to the four chapters of Part One, all of which are omitted in the US edition. Very Good in publisher's yellow cloth with black titling. No d.j. The yellow cloth and lettering remain bright and bold. Endpapers are a little darkened but the text block is bright, fresh and clean. A bookplate has been removed from the f.e.p. Some glue darkening shadows in gutters. Binding tight and square, all corners sharp.Minimal shelf wear to top and base of spine. A very nice copy.
