Description: Copy #594 of only 675 numbered copies issued. 10 tipped-in color plates by Edmund Dulac. A Very Good copy in the original white cloth over grey boards printed in silver, with paper label on the front cover, spine stampe in gilt (some smudging and light wear to cloth; boards rubbed at corners, pen note on the back of the cloth near the spine (see image)). A scarce work on Pearls, beautifully illustrated by Dulac.

Description: A book on the subject of the Pearl (unsurprisingly) illustrated with 10 coloured plates by Edmund Dulac. Quarter bound with grey boards and white cloth spine, TEG. The top board is decorated with a maritime theme of shells and waves. Limited to 675 copies this copy is, internally, in very good condition with boards that are a trifle scuffed with a rubbed spine (see photos). Two pages have neat pencil annotations. Uncommon.

The ten delightful water colours are in the artist's characteristic decorative Oriental style.

Ten tipped-in colour plates (including frontispiece) each with a titled tissue guard. Quarter fine-grain ivory cloth (presumably designed to look like vellum) over paper covered boards. Sea-shell and waves design to upper board, gilt titles to spine. Top edge gilt. Delightful illustrations by Dulac in his trademark Persian miniature style. Book in very good condition. Minor bumping to corners and some rubbing/wear to edges of boards - mainly to leading edge. Slight creasing to extremities of spine. Tissue guards all in place though slightly discoloured. Very clean internally. No jacket. Altogether a very nice copy.

Description: The First UK printing published by Nisbet & Co. Ltd, London in 1920. Number '97' of 100 special deluxe copies signed by the artist to the limitation page. The BOOK is in near Fine condition with original white paper-covered boards with gilt titles to the front and a vellum spine with gilt titles. The vellum spine remains very clean and bright. The boards have lightly darkened in places to the edges. Internally clean and free of inscriptions. All ten tipped in colour plates and their printed tissue guards are present as called for and are in fine condition. The very scarce WRAPPER is complete and is in near Fine condition. The gilt titling and decoration remains very bright to the front cover. A small closed tear to the upper front edge and a little age related marking but it remains in exceptional condition for its age. The wrapper is protected in a removable Mylar archival cover. Léonard Rosenthal was a famed Parisian jeweller who personally commissioned Dulac's illustrations; they first appeared in the French edition of the same year. As noted by Dulac's bibliographer, "'(Dulac's) plates, truly genius, do much to bring a fanciful touch to the otherwise stark exposition of a treatise on pearls'. The London Times Literary critic praised this work, 'at his best' and 'fantastically Persian,'. As nice a copy of this title as you are likely to find with the very scarce wrapper. Collectible.
