Description: 1813 SIXTH EDITION REVISED AND CORRECTED. 460 Pages. Described as poor because covers are well worn; spine is vertically cracked; front board together with front endpaper and half title page are detached, and text block between pages 192 and 193 only held together by one string. I never like throwing away such an old book. Hand written 'Castleton Library' on title page. Pages are clean with some browning in parts.

A very finely bound set in full Regency 'Russia' calf with twin gilt raised bands and superb gilt and blind tooling to the panels and boards, so typical of the period. The celebrated image by Joshua Reynolds serves as frontispiece, which is offset onto the title page, otherwise a fabulous set in pristine condition of possibly the greatest of all biographies.
