Price: US$131.50 + shipping

Condition: Good

Description: First edition, scarcer tan paper over boards binding variant (though there is no clear priority between this and the grey cloth). Lacks scarce jacket. Internal split to spine paper, minor loss to spine head and to spine base, board corners bumped, page ridges lightly foxed, ink name on front paste-down endpaper. 1917 Hard Cover. 216 pp. Lewis was the first American author to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. The Appleby's are happy couple. Often referring to the other as ?father? or ?mother?, the couple have remained as affectionate and passionate as newlyweds, and both are energetic despite their old age. Though they feel young and full of life, their adult daughter, with whom they share a difficult relationship with, and the rest of society, hardly agrees. It is suggested that the couple consider retiring and moving to an assisted living facility. Disenfranchised and underestimated, Mrs. and Mr. Appleby resent the assumption that their lives are over, and in attempt to satiate their desires and prove the others wrong, they decide to take a risk. Working toward a long-held dream, the Appleby's risk their life savings to open a roadside café in New England, despite the protests and doubts of their daughter. Excited and optimistic, the two begin their business journey ready for any obstacle in their way, or so they thought.

Sinclair Lewis. The Innocents: A Story For Lovers. Harper & Brothers, 1917.

Price: US$225.00 + shipping

Condition: Very Good

Description: Grey cloth with gilt Title. Copyright page shows 1917 with F-R mark, a scarce true first of the Nobel Prize winner's potboiler. The titles on cover and spine are faded, and there is shelf, edgewear and bumping to corners. There are breaks at pages 139 and 187, where the signatures (the bound sheets that make up a book) come together. This does not impact the integrity of the spine, however, which is straight and tight. There are no markings in this volume, no foxing and very little tanning. The pages are clean. The final page has a tear, but remains part of the book. There is a small, 1" blue sticker from a New York bookseller on the rear endpaper. A very good copy.
