First British Edition, First Printing, as designated by "First published in Great Britain 1996" and full number line (beginning with 1) printed on copyright page. [This short memoir was published in the U.S. in The New Yorker and then in the Irving collection "Trying to Save Piggy Sneed". The Canadian and British editions were the only solo releases of the memoir, and I believe the British edition was the first published.] A fine, hardcover copy, black cloth covered boards, black cloth covered spine with gold lettering. Book is square and solid, spine is tight. Bottom front board corner slightly bumped. Not ex-library, no previous owner markings, book plates, or remainder marks. Looks unread. Bright, near fine unclipped dust jacket (£9.99 price intact). Minor wrinkling to top cover and flap edges, minor staining on top cover and flap edges. Encased in Brodart Quik-Fold polyester acid-free jacket cover. Shipped in well-padded box.

Description: The uncorrected proof copy of the first British edition of this title, which was incorporated into the U.S. edition of Trying to Save Piggy Sneed and had no separate U.S. printing. Inscribed by Irving. Fine in a near fine, proof dust jacket, worn where it overlays the proof, with the price of £13.99 (later lowered to £9.99). An uncommon proof (the British trade edition would have had a proportionally smaller printing than a U.S. one would have had, and the proof equally so), especially with the proof jacket, and even more so signed by Irving. This is the first signed copy of it we have handled. Unless otherwise noted, our first editions are first printings.
