Description: 1946. From an edition of 2,500 copies. 316 pages. Black cloth with gilt titles and decoration at spine, boards lightly scuffed, with moderate edgewear including rubbing to edges, bumping to spine tips and top fore-edge corners. Small puncture wound at lower spine. Spine square. Rear inner hinge starting. Binding just slightly cracked at lower quarter of title page. Binding else intact, sound through text. Dust jacket toned to edges, scuffed and sunned to spine, with small puncture over the same wound in the book. DJ also showing light to moderate edgewear including minor chipping at spine tips and corners, one inch split to front hinge at spine head. DJ protected in Mylar; cover price $3.00. Significant toning / discoloration to paste downs (from glue at production). Fore-edge smudge at page 315, interior else clean, lightly toned, free of markings.

Description: Arkham House, Sauk City, WI, 1946. First Edition octavo black cloth Hardcover, gold gilt decor & lettering on spine, no DJ, 316 pp. Only 2602 copies printed. 21 weird tales, often of cosmic horror, by Frank Belknap Long, one of H.P. Lovecraft's (and August Derleth's) closest friends. This copy has book's description from the DJ flaps pasted to the front & back paste downs. Former owners' ex Libris card on ffep along with my signature in very small letters at top (& date I purchased it Dec 1974). Another ex-owner's name stamp on title page and back free end paper. None of these detract much from the book, which is clean, solid, no bumped corners, interior unmarked, no bent or torn pages; very good to good copy (but no DJ as noted).

Long was a close personal and professional friend and was strongly influenced by him in the field of weird fantasy. Bound in black cloth, spine lettering gilt, some tape ghost to edges of endpapers, a good copy in a good, clipped pictorial dust jacket with some toning to spine and edges, rubbing to joints and spine ends, old tape mends to underside of jacket at spine ends.

Black cloth with gilt spine titles, boards very good with light rubbing edgewear, bumped spine tips. Spine square. Binding sound. Top edge of textblock a little dusty. Dust jacket toned, edgeworn, with early tape repair to the verso, attached all along the top and bottom edges. Toning/glue stain has bled slightly through to front. Edges of endsheets also affected by a sticker ghost effect from the tape repair, and moderate toning. Trace smoky scent in pages. Interior lightly toned, else clean, free of markings.
