Description: Fourth printing 1959. Spine and cloth boards with light fade. Large liquid stain to a portion of front and rear boards. Creasing to endpapers, text and illustrations in VG condition, toning stripe to first and last pages, a few pages with corner wear. Page 21 bottom corner irregular cut with excess but is folded over to fit within text block edge. Price clipped DJ, Fair, with toning, light soil, edge wear, small tearing, liquid staining more noticeable to the underside than outside. Slipcase, Poor, heavy staining, discoloration, foxing, liquid staining, loss of paper to cardboard, creasing, tearing, puncture. Bottom panel of slipcase with staple detachment. Includes color plates. Fourth printing. From the Collection of Steve Reoutt (1938-2008). A longtime California College of the Arts Graphic Design faculty member (41 years to be exact) and professor emeritus, Reoutt also was a book illustrator, curator, painter, and genuinely appreciated and loved member of the CCA community. He was born in 1938 in Shanghai to Russian parents. He came to the United States when he was just 12 years old. He went on to cofound the San Francisco chapter of the AIGA, including serving a nine-year board position as design historian. In 2001 Reoutt received the AIGA Fellowship award for ?personal and professional contributions to raising the standards of excellence within our design community." He passed away May 14, 2008.

Description: First Edition, Fourth printing of a Near Fine (as in VG+), '[m]anufactured in Japan', 4to hardcover in a G+ to VG- dust jacket and a VG slipcase. Pinkish end papers; 286 folded-leaf pages featuring 187 full-page plates and hundreds of text decorations. This contents are like new. Blue and pale orange cloth with gilt spine lettering and a paper title label on the upper board. These covers are fine with the exception of a bit of fading at the head of the spine. The dust jacket designed by M. Kuwata, has a front flap clipped to but not beyond the original retail price of $10.00 in the U.S. One-half inch tears along the front and rear spine edges at the head with related creases. The dust jacket is otherwise fine. The cardboard slipcase with a yellow and brown label and a small 'Printed in Japan' red stamp is at least VG. No ex-library markings! **Extra charges will be required to cover postage costs on a order requesting expedited and/or international shipping because of the size and the weight of this distinctive book.

Description: PUBLISHER: Charles E. Tuttle DATE/EDITION: Stated copyright in Japan 1958, First Edition 1958, third printing 1959. BINDING: Hardbound in salmon colored cloth on the top quarter and faint black on the rest of the covers and spine with a paste down label with Japanese printing on the front cover and the title in English in gold lettering on the spine, 286 pages, pages are uncut with illustrations and text on only one side and the reverse of each page blank. DUST JACKET: Corner clipped but still states price of 10.00 in the U.S. Light wrinkle at the spine ends with a very tiny nick at the top edge. Jacket is in a protective cover and is overall very good, very clean and bright. Also in a slipcase with a wraparound label. Slight edge wear but clean and intact and label is very good. BOOK CONDITION: A very tiny line of sunning at the bottom spine edge otherwise the book is near fine with sharp corners and bright lettering, very clean covers and interior and tight binding. DESCRIPTION: Illustrated throughout with sketches by Katsushika Hokusai.
