Description: For this history of the renowned London Scottish Regiment in WWII, Brigadier Barclay acted as editor while also providing five of the 21 chapters. In most cases the other chapters were provided by "eyewitnesses" from the regiment serving with the unit involved in "the activities which they describe." The first battalion of the regiment served in Great Britain at the time when German invasion threatarened, the Middle East, Sicily, Italy and there again after rest and reorganisation in Egypt. The second battalion was in the British Isles for most of the war, largely involved in training duties. The third battalion remained in Britain till 1942, then seeing service in Egypt and North Africa, Sicily and Italy till, like the first battalion, war's end. This fine book was commissioned by the regiment and in addition to following its 1939-45 activities covers the years between the two world wars, the Home Front in WWII, units affiliated to the regiments and members assigned to independent companies sent to Norway in 1940 to harrass German invaders, it also contains appendices listing honours and awards, senior officers, other ranks commissioned, the regimental war memorial and benovolent funds as well as a '39 to '45 roll of honour. 459 pages including index, 30 b/w photos, two sketches, 10 fold-out maps. Blue hard covers with gilt regimental badge to front and gilf spine titles are VG+ with trace wear spine base/lower corners, small ink name top corner title page, text block otherwise excellent. A great copy.
