The FFEP has a rectangular panel clipped out, measuring 10cm x 4cm, no doubt where a name had been written. The frontis is a coloured plate by John E. Sutcliffe, which has a crease to one corner, on the white margin only. The History of Mr. Polly is a comic novel by H. G. Wells (1866-1946). The protagonist is an antihero inspired by Wells's early experiences in the drapery trade, who - despite his own timidity and confusion - achieves contentment with the help of those around him. 10 pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally smart, with a few faint marks to the front board, and some losses to the spine label, not affecting the text. Internally, firmly bound. Complete with the very good, rubbed and nicked dustwrapper that has multiple tiny chips to the edges and an old internal tape repair to a closed tear at the head of the mildly darkened spine.
