Previous owners' names, initials, to first blank and half title, Vol I. A pretty binding, now somewhat tired, joints rubbed, occasional scuff marks, minor loss to head of spines of vols I, III, and IV. Still a sound set, pages tight and free of marks.

Oliver Goldsmith (10 November 1728 4 April 1774) was an Irish novelist, playwright and poet, who is best known for his novel The Vicar of Wakefield (1766), his pastoral poem The Deserted Village (1770), and his plays The Good-Natur'd Man (1768) and She Stoops to Conquer (1771, first performed in 1773). He is thought to have written the classic children's tale The History of Little Goody Two-Shoes (1765). Interiors with some light age toning and/or damp staining to the edges of the interior covers and endpapers. Minor sporadic foxing and/or smudges to a few pages of some volumes. Starting at the gutters of the interior covers. Vol.3 with the pagination on the last leaf (p.253-254) cut out, leaving a small hole in the upper corner. Signature of John Horwood Hinton, the previous owner, in ink at the front free endapapers. Book blocks tight overall. Bindings in good- to good+, interiors in good+ to very good condition overall.
