"The Decline and Fall" was his magnum opus and is considered to be the first modern history written based on primary sources rather than secondary sources and was not influenced or swayed by official church doctrine. This handsome set is in very good condition.

Edges of textblock are coloured redbrown. One original handcoloured, foldout map to first volume. Condition is as follows.nbsp; Small amount of foxing to Vol. 2, 3, and 5's endpapers. Front board's cloth on volume three is lifting slightly. Condition is relatively uniform throughout the set. Loss and rubbing to leather, particularly to corners which are wellworn, with some intermittent marking to boards. Some loss to heads and tails of all spines.Overall, this is a set which is externally fair but still internally intact with mostly cosmetic outer damage. A decorative and complete set with price adjusted according to condition.nbsp;
