Heavier to endpapers and pastedowns. Pencil inscription to front free endpaper. Boards have moderate shelf-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Slight crushing to spine ends. Wear marks overall.

Description: 12mo. Two volumes in one. Volume 1: [12], 292pp.; Volume 2: [10], 317pp. Ex-library, with an engraved bookplate and two small ownership stamps on the half-title and title pages. Near contemporary boards with a later dark full leather binding. Very good with moderate scattered foxing to the text pages, the leather cover is still soft and clean. Scarce in the trade. *OCLC* locates six copies. Although not marked as such, this copy is from the library of Pulitzer Prize-winning author Peter Taylor and his wife, the National Book Award-nominated poet Eleanor Ross Taylor.

Description: A nice edition of Henry Fielding's best known comic novel, the influential novel that was one of the first in English. Complete in two volumes. 'Joseph Andrews' is the story of a good-natured footman and his adventures on his way home from London with his friend and mentor, the parson Abraham Adams, an absent minded man. This novel is among the first in the English language, and is often defined as a comic epic poem in prose. Written by Henry Fielding, the English novelist, well known for his humorous and satirical work. He was also one of those ho founded London's first police force, the Bow Street Runners. A sound and handsome set with rubbing to the edges, no spine chips, some tarnish to the gilt spines on a few volumes, sound text blocks (binding stitching showing at the title page of volume XI, but book is structurally sound), age-toned and lightly to moderately foxed pages throughout, no names or other markings. Hard Cover. Good. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall.
