Description: First UK Edition. Publisher's red boards with black lettering to the front board and spine. A Royal Naval War Libraries stamp to the top left hand corner of the front paste-down, offsetting to both sets of end-papers and light foxing to the page block edges. Boards, however, really bright and clean and this copy is VG indeed. The VG D/W is price-clipped to the front flap and is lightly toned to the spine. A circular publisher's label (probably showing a price variation) has been removed from the spine leaving a lighter patch underneath. Great D/W artwork by Bruce Roberts. Primary flaw is white paintlike spots around outside of book, largest spots at bottom of spine and back of volume, a few light stains on front cover; possibly removable. Otherwise, this volume has a very white page block considering 1939 printing. Hinges remains strong and binding remains clean and tight. Stated 39th printing. Some scuffing and wear to boards' outside edges and corners but other than stains, boards preserved very well. No writing to the text or other serious flaws.
