Condition: Very Good

Description: This volume was sold only by subscription and is the scarce 1st edition. Handsomely illustrated with engravings and maps. 528 pages. Volume itself is protected in a clear Brodart cover. The front cover is the original brown cloth front cover with pictoral scenes of the great west in black and gilt that are very sharp and show little wear. The spine has been professionally repaired and shows minimal loss/chipping of decorative cloth overlay at the base and at top (of the overlay, not the spine itself) with the title The Great West being very sharp. The book is tight. Some age toning on the pages. No apparent chipping on the edges but shows a touch of wear. At the bottom of the pages at the start of the work (from approximately page 21 to 50) there is a small fold at the bottom outer edge the largest of which measured diagionally is about 1" . I have attempted to straightened these out but am not totally satisfied. There is a small round brown spot at the bottom on a very few of these pages. Not ex-libris. No bookplates. There is a presentation page that has no name written in at the appropriate spot. Approximately 10" x 7". As nice a copy as you are likely to find. In my opinion several pictures will not convey condition as accurately as my description and I do not have the technical capacity to send pictures at this time. This is a copy that personal inspection would be helpful. I have tried to the best of my ability to describe all flaws and am a rather critical hombre.
