Description: True first British printing. No jacket as issued. Complete in one volume. 548 pages plus publisher's 40 page catalogue to rear (dated March 1905 - the earliest issue). Blue boards with gold lettering to spine and front are only good with pushing/bumping to corners, one hole/split to the cloth (approx. 2cms by 1cm) to spine with binding showing, numerous marks, patchy fading (mainly to front), patchy bumping/rubbing to edges, a few small scratches and wear (pushing/rubbing/little loss/splits to the cloth/bumping) to head/tail of spine. Pages are generally clean and the binding is tight (bit pulled in places with webbing showing - however book is not in danger of falling apart). Rough cut page bottoms. Previous owner's bookplate inside front board. Pages tanned. Odd small marks/minor foxing/small scratches to page edges, tops and bottoms. Occasional marks/scattered foxing to pages (especially to end-papers and first and last few pages). Light creases to a few pages. No other faults. All books described honestly and accurately. G., Oct 27 1909'. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. A few minor marks to the boards. Light rubbing to the joints. Very light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Cockling to the tail of the front board. Hinges are starting but firm. A little wear to the paste downs, with evidence of formerly adhered labels being removed. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto of the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with the occasional spot only. Very Good
