Description: First UK edition of London's second book of short shories. 299 pp. A collection of Alaskan tales by Jack London including The God of his Fathers, The Great Interrogation, Which Make Men Remember, Siwash, The Man With the Gash, Jan the Unrepentant, Grit of Women, Where the Trail Forks, A Daughter of the Aurora, At the Rainbow's End, & The Scorn of Women. These tales originally appeared in 'McClure's', 'Ainslee's', 'Outing', the 'Overland Monthly', the 'Wave', the 'National' and the San Francisco 'Examiner'. London spent the year from July 1897 to August 1898 in the Klondyke partaking in the Alaskan Gold Rush which left him impoverished. But he returned to California with something very valuable - a wealth of memories which would provide the inspiration for some of his best novels and short stories. This is a collection of some of his finest short stories. Spots of foxing on front eps, half-title page and rear eps only. Internally text very clean throughout. Binding very tight and sound. Previous owner's bookplate on fep. Maroon cloth boards with gilt lettering on spine. Spine somewhat faded. Gilt lettering and blindstamp emblem on front board. Top and bottom of spine and corners lightly rubbed. Overall condition VG. No dust wrapper. A scarce book especially in this condition.
