H. Lawrence with explanatory note affixed to title page. The other three stories are translated by S. S. Koteliansky and Leonard Woolf. Foxing to rear endpapers. Bunin was the first Russian to receive the Nobel prize fro literature.

Description: For a 100+ year old book, this is an excellent specimen. It is clean, free of writing, markings, or tears, and is solidly bound. Tiny sticker inside back cover from New York bookshop. Pastedown front label is complete and cliean. Pastedown spine label shows wear/chips but minor (see photos for closeup). Includes laid in errata slip indicating that D. Hl. Lawrence was one of the translators. Also laid in is note indicating a 1989 evaluation of $144 made by the Bloomsbury Workshop. Listed as First Thus because it was originally published in another language at an earlier date.

Lawrence, but "owing to a mistake Mr. Lawrence's name has been omitted from the title page"; the remaining three stories were translated by Koteliansky and Leonard Woolf. Woolmer 18 ("about 1,000 copies printed"). Octavo. Original green, blue, and yellow patterned paper boards, white paper labels to spine and front cover printed in black, 2 pp. of publisher's advertisements printed at rear. Erratum slip tipped-in to title page, as issued. Spine label lightly toned, extremities a touch bumped, binding otherwise bright, hint of foxing to outer leaves, contents clean. A very good copy.

Description: First edition. Translated from the Russian by S. S. Koteliansky and Leonard Woolf. 12mo. 86pp. Decorated paper-covered boards with label on front cover and spine. The errata slip is present which credits D. H. Lawrence with assisting in the translation of the first story in this volume. Endpapers are moderately foxed, light wear to the fragile boards at the spine and tips of corners, a very good of better copy. Ivan Alekseyevich Bunin won the 1933 Nobel Prize in Literature. About 1000 copies printed.
