Description: One of 1170 (1200) copies set in Centaur and printed in black (the title-page in reddish-brown and black) on Magnani hand-made paper. Illustrated with 16 coloured lithographs. Patterned cloth-covered boards, green and white, red leather spine label with gilt titling. Grey paper dust-jacket, printed in green, somewhat chipped and slightly soiled on the front panel. Some spotting to fore-edge. Lacks card slipcase. A very good copy. Printed at the Officina Bodoni and distributed by Collins in 1947.

The jacket is slightly darkened on its spine and the light gray paper shows a touch of soil. The publisher's box is marred by a gift inscription of a previous owner. A nice edition of Katherine Mansfield which is highly desirable for its colored lithographs.

Katherine Mansfield Beauchamp Murry (1888-1923) was born in New Zealand, and moved to Great Britain in 1908; she died of the effects of tuberculosis, contracted during World War I, at the age of thirty-four. Artist Marie Laurencin (1883-1956), cubist painter and printmaker, was born in Paris; she was associated with Picasso, Picabia and Delaunay, and had friendships with Apollinaire, Braque and Natalie Clifford Barney. Slight rubbing at base of spine and on bottom edge of covers, else a fine, bright copy in very good dust jacket; gray printed jacket has a few small tears at crown of spine, three-inch tear at edge of lower spine, front panel has two-inch tear at top edge (with two early tape mends on verso), few small, early, tan stains at base of spine and lower edge of front panel, else the front panel is quite fresh and bright With Coloured Lithographs by Marie Laurencin. Description: First illustrated edition, with colored lithographs by Marie Laurencin. Tall octavo. Original green pastepaper over boards with printed red paper spine label gilt. Slight foxing on the front fly, still easily fine. One of 1200 numbered copies (the first 30 were signed) designed by Hans Mardersteig of the Officina Bodoni. This copy is nicely Inscribed by Laurencin in French in 1949, with an elaborate filigree decoration surrounding the inscription.
